Next treasurer needs qualifications to right Conn.’s many fiscal woes

While the state debt looks excessive, the unfunded pension liability of nearly $40 billion is a train wreck. This pension deficit is the single factor holding our state back. Each year, we pay almost $3 billion in pension expenses. Were it not for that expense, our taxes would be lower and our economic growth much higher.
